What is snoring?

Snoring is effectively air turbulence caused by vibration of the tissues of the throat as a result of a partially obstructed airway.

This could be the result of partial collapse of the airway muscles, a large uvula or a physical obstruction, such as enlarged tonsils, adenoids or a tumour.

Typically, this occurs when the muscles that keep the airway open become too relaxed, the tongue falls back or excess fatty tissue accumulates around your face and neck, which exacerbates airway muscle collapse.
